I'm super excited to have some new art on the walls at the Gallery. As the summer action begins to heat up, BirdSong will be featuring the art of Rebekah Cook, an acclaimed and amazing oil painter from Narragansett, RI. Rebekah often works on large canvases, so the space at the Gallery has been a bit of a challenge to best showcase Rebekah's work, but I think we're doing it jiustice. Rebekah is known for her amazing seascapes and coastal themed oils that blend local scenes with dramatic color and emotion.
Also, tonight, the town council of South Kingstown granted me my victualing license which will allow me to sell bottled drinks and pre-packaged snacks. I guess I need to buy a fridge now!!
On the bird scene, Greater Yellowlegs have been heard for the last couple of days in and around the Gallery, and young Red-winged Blackbirds rae all over the marsh, descending in large groups to forage in the short Spartina. Also, it appears that the resident Mute Swans who lost their five fledglings to the elements are not going to re-nest, so that's kind of nice!! Today on a short walk to the beach my friend Charlie and I heard two rails do a couple of calls back and forth to each other. They sounded most like Clapper Rails, but they weren't giving their full vocalizations, so I'm not going to venture a wager.
Here's my new poster:
