New Artists at the Gallery!!!

I'm super excited to have some new art on the walls at the Gallery. As the summer action begins to heat up, BirdSong will be featuring the art of Rebekah Cook, an acclaimed and amazing oil painter from Narragansett, RI. Rebekah often works on large canvases, so the space at the Gallery has been a bit of a challenge to best showcase Rebekah's work, but I think we're doing it jiustice. Rebekah is known for her amazing seascapes and coastal themed oils that blend local scenes with dramatic color and emotion.

Also, tonight, the town council of South Kingstown granted me my victualing license which will allow me to sell bottled drinks and pre-packaged snacks. I guess I need to buy a fridge now!!

On the bird scene, Greater Yellowlegs have been heard for the last couple of days in and around the Gallery, and young Red-winged Blackbirds rae all over the marsh, descending in large groups to forage in the short Spartina. Also, it appears that the resident Mute Swans who lost their five fledglings to the elements are not going to re-nest, so that's kind of nice!! Today on a short walk to the beach my friend Charlie and I heard two rails do a couple of calls back and forth to each other. They sounded most like Clapper Rails, but they weren't giving their full vocalizations, so I'm not going to venture a wager.

Here's my new poster:

Upholstery and Costa Rica

Because it's the only photo I have access to right now, here is the custom 83 Sportster that I did the seat for. It's the second motorcycle seat I've done this spring, and as it was custom, built by a non-upholsterer it presented some challenges. All agree that it came out well, and I'm pretty excited about my new vocation. Motorcycle seats are pretty big market.
My Mom is an upholsterer, and I've worked for her since I was 10. In Latin America women don't sew anything but clothes, and no one believes that my mother works in such a valiant capacity. "Que valiente" they say.

Now on a more serious note, and since it's below the photo, no one will read, but the Costa Rican Government is saying that I haven't registered my company which owns my property since 2007, and I have receipts showing that I paid my lawyer to register it through 2009 with the understanding that he would continue to do so. He told my caretaker that he has no recollection of this. As it stands now, they will bulldoze my house on July 26th. Awesome!! I have no money to get there. No way to take time off. I think all of my paperwork is in a filing cabinet in a locked garage in Port Angeles, Washington, and I have no way of getting it. So, anyone who has woken up to the sounds of Macaws in the morning or looked at Pacific Screech Owls in the yard, rest assured that those things will continue to happen, only my involvement with those events might be less!! ARrrggghhh, and it all comes crashing down at once!!!

New Beginnings

Well, Crazy life has been really crazy for the last little bit and showing no signs of slowing down, but in the interest of prioritizing, I am dropping a few things that I would normally do daily to add in a few, like blogging again. Yes the pattern here is evident, but please don't judge. To fill you in real quick, in the past few months, I have re-furbished a building, opened a gallery/giftshop, gone completely broke, seen a few life birds , taken a few cool photos, broken mine and other's hearts, met some cool people, travelled to Minnesota, had my license suspended for not getting my car inspected, drove around for a while on a suspended license, got pulled over, and let go by an oblivious providence cop, oh and did I mention I finally saw my first Rhode Island Canada Warbler, within feet of my gallery no less!
So, here's to new beginnings, and a cool photo that I took last night. Tell your friends, Drew is back blogging, and this is going to be one hell of a ride. Hang on tight.
